Robert Beck
Beck has been described as a documentary painter for his live depictions of the events, artifacts, and occupations of our time. Many of his images are painted from life, often done under challenging circumstances with unpredictable environments and activity. He is known for painting in series; doing multiple paintings that address different facets of his subject. In recent years Beck has shifted toward studio work, which allows him to create single images from multiple experiences and sources. But his focus is still on who we are, and what we do.
Beck’s work has been exhibited in a dozen museum shows, most recently at the Maine Maritime Museum with the exhibition: Robert Beck – Over East (2016-2017). The James A. Michener Museum will present an extensive retrospective of his work in 2021. Beck’s resume includes twenty major invitationals, thirty solo exhibitions, and thirty significant awards for his work
