Tracy Everly
Everly’s paintings are born of attraction to and direct observation of things that she finds beautiful, be it a flower, jar, or particular view of light on a house’s facade. Like the New Hope Impressionists that inspired her, she says she looks for something—a moment, a place, or a time—that gives her a feeling of excitement and joy. Her expressive treatment, however, is one marked by deliberation. “Every mark is a decision,” she says. “You do have your happy accidents but everything is planned –does this stay, does this get scraped off? Everything is very carefully thought out.” Her gestural paintings are the combination of beauty-driven impulse and process-driven structure.
