Lynne Campbell

Campbell says that living in a city heightens her awareness of nature.  From Philadelphia, she is inspired by her view—rooftops, trees, antennas, and birds.  She paints from memory, however, and her small, intimate paintings of a specific moment are also about all that is unseen in that image.  As she explains: “One impetus for my work is an attempt to grasp the simultaneity of time:  that while we are busy doing something in one place, something small and momentous is happening in another. My paintings are an effort to imagine events that are otherwise unavailable to us because of time and space.”

Campbell, who studied at both the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Philadelphia, lives and works in Philadelphia.
